Join WHYY and its partners for the VOTE DEMOCRACY! Forum - a full day conference for Philadelphia high school students to participate in the political process. The day will consist of interactive workshops, a mock election, and presentations to ignite the power of the voice of students so that they can effect and make change. The day is not about the "young vote" its about the energy, intelligence and power of the young voice.  :: Philadelphia Public School Students may receive extra credits in social studies or history classes.  For eligibility, talk to your teacher(s). ::

Registration begins at 9:00am with the day starting at 9:45. Choose your workshop to participate and create in:

  • Media and Voting presented by Scribe Video and WHYY- The media is the most powerful influence on the political process. Is it fair? Is it responsible?
  • Mock Congress presented by HipHop Political Convention -  Whats been on your mind? Identify the issues and speak it loud!
  • What You Can Do presented by Black Youth Vote - If you're not of voting age, how can you effectively bring positive change to your community? Learn about effective mobilization.
  • Why Vote? Why Care? presented by WHYY - There is more than a national election going on.  Learn about the national AND local races and if your vote really does matter.
  • Student Freedoms: The 1st Amendment in Schools presented by National Student Voices  - Are there or should there be limits to the extent which students express themselves? Examine and discuss national court cases that are setting the precedent to your rights.
  • The Exchange presented by National Constitution Center  - What issues are important to Philly students? The results will be folded into a national presentation to the presidential candidates.
