WCMU Promotions Assistant Ashleigh Klipper received the
Communication Coordinator of the Year award on Saturday, March
31 at the National Broadcasting Society's National Convention in
Chicago. Ashleigh is a senior at Central Michigan
University and the Public Relations Director for the Central
Michigan University Chapter of NBS.

"Soul of the Voice" Friday, April 20 at 2
p.m.
Enjoy stories from those who've mastered that most elemental
and human of musical instruments, the voice. Gospel legend
Clarence Fountain demonstrates the difference between Jubilee
singing and rap. French vocalist Camille whispers, chortles and
multitracks her way to a haunting personal style. Joseph
Shabalala describes the singing dream that inspired Ladysmith
Black Mambazo. Cecilia Bartoli strives for the sound of a
trumpet. And another of the world's great operatic voices,
Renée Fleming, talks about the joy she finds in the music
of Tchaikovsky and of jazz guitarist Bill Frisell. |

HIP DEEP "The Legacy of Al
Andalus" Part 2: North Africa and Beyond
Friday, April 20 at 9 p.m.
This "Hip Deep" program examines the intriguing variety of
"Andalusian" music traditions, especially in Morocco, Algeria
and Syria. Andalusian scholar Dwight Reynolds speaks with
Moroccan musicians, a specialist on Syrian Andalusian
traditions, and of course, there's lots of music, including the
Orchestra of Fes and legendary Syrian singer Sabri Moudallal. |

STAND UP FOR
JAZZ! Saturday, April 21 at 11 a.m.
April is Jazz Appreciation Month and what better way to
celebrate both jazz and the memory of a great broadcaster at the
same time. The late Ed Bradley is the host of this special
presentation. "Stand Up for Jazz" includes comedy and
music with special guests Bill Cosby, Wynton Marsalis and the
Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

CMU Public Television's academic high school quiz bowl show,
Quiz Central, continues with thirty-two high schools from
central and northern Michigan participating in the television
tournament. Each school will send a four-person team to
the WCMU studios to compete for scholarships to Central Michigan
University. Catch a division semi-final match-up between Mt.
Pleasant and Roscommon high schools on this week's Quiz

At the very center of Christianity, in one of the holiest
cities on Earth, a mystery as old as the Christian faith is
closer to being solved. An archaeological team from Oxford
University has been hard at work attempting to prove that
Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre is the actual location

infamous inheritance dispute that's tied up for generations in
the dysfunctional English courts, while lawyers consume the
assets of the estate. |
